LGBTQ+

All our services are LGBTQ+ friendly and you are welcome to make use of any of these that you need.  All of our service users will routinely be asked about their gender identity and about the gender of sexual partners where this is relevant.  This will help us to ensure that we offer you the right care and that when we are communicating with you we use the pronouns and language that you prefer.

PrEP

PrEP is a medication that can be taken to reduce the risk of catching HIV from sex.  It is offered to people who may be at increased risk of acquiring HIV through sex.

Vaccines

Various vaccines are recommended for some LGBTQ+ people including Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, HPV and Mpox.  Your clinician will help to identify whether you should be offered these vaccines.

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

This is medication that can be taken after sex to reduce the risk of catching HIV.  It needs to be taken as soon as possible after sex but definitely within 72 hours.  If you think you may need this and it is  Monday – Friday between 9 am and 5pm contact us now to discuss this.  If it is outside of these hours, contact A&E to be assessed for PEP.

Gender

We are experienced at providing sexual and reproductive healthcare to people who are transgender, non-binary or otherwise gender diverse and will be delighted to provide this to you.  We will also help you to identify if you may benefit from PEP, PrEP or vaccines as above.

If you wish to access gender services because you are uncomfortable or uncertain about your gender, or because you are considering feminising or masculinising treatment, this is not something that is currently available through our service.  Instead you can refer yourself to the Gender Service at Sandyford in Glasgow.

Alternatively, you may prefer to speak to your GP who would be able to make a referral to this NHS gender service or may be able to recommend other options.
