HIV Risk / PEP

HIV Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

HIV Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP  is a form of emergency HIV medication taken by someone who does not have HIV but who has or may have been very recently exposed to HIV.

PEP is a 28 day course of anti retroviral medication.

PEP should be commenced as soon as possible; however it can be started up to 72 hours after potential exposure. The earlier it is commenced the more effective it is.

Where can I get PEP?

Sexual Health Clinics (call us on 01382 425542 Monday – Friday during opening hours)

Accident & Emergency departments - Ninewells Hospital and Perth Royal Infirmary (Evenings/ Weekends and public holidays)

Will I definitely get PEP?

You will be assessed by a clinician who will discuss the level of HIV risk and whether PEP would be recommended or not.
